OUR ORIGIN STORY
Souza Development celebrates the vision of Chris' Parents, Steve and Patricia Souza, who believed that real estate was about more than buildings — it was about creating communities where people truly feel at home.
In 1977, Steve earned his real estate broker’s license and, together with Patricia, purchased their first income property. Within a year, they had acquired several multi-family residences, quickly building both experience and momentum. By 1986, they formally founded Souza Development Corporation, uniting their growing portfolio under one name and setting the stage for decades of growth.

From the beginning, Patricia brought a unique perspective: she ensured that residents felt cared for and connected, organizing holiday gatherings and community events that made their buildings feel like neighborhoods. Steve, meanwhile, combined sharp business instincts with a hands-on approach, from scouting land opportunities to personally guiding families through the mortgage process.

Their work soon expanded beyond rentals into new residential developments. Over the years, they built and sold hundreds of units in New Bedford, Fairhaven, and Dartmouth, while also pioneering projects that set new standards for the region.

For Steve and Patricia, success was never just measured in square footage or sales — it was about the people whose lives were enriched by the places they created. That spirit of community continues to guide Souza Development as it exists today.
